Ingredient Highlights

Key Ingredients: Coconut Oil

Tallow, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, kombucha ferment, green tea extract, sea buckthorn oil, orange peel oil, kaolin. All the oils are carefully measured and melted together to ensure a uniform blend before mixing with the lye solution. The melted oils are then combined with the lye solution for proper saponification. Distilled water is used to ensure purity and consistency in the soap recipe. A soap calculator and lye calculator are used to determine the correct lye amounts for the specific combination of oils and fats.

Other soap recipes may use alternative oils and fats such as babassu oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, rice bran oil, beef tallow, sheep tallow, or rice bran to achieve different lather, hardness, and conditioning qualities. Beef fat (beef tallow) is a traditional ingredient and requires precise calculation for optimal results.

Benefits

Gives a creamy, luxurious lather with a warm, slightly fruity aroma, and produces a creamy lather that is gentle on the skin. Suitable for sensitive skin, this soap can also be used as a gentle shampoo bar for dry or sensitive scalp and hair. Thanks to its natural ingredients and traditional process, it offers a long shelf life.

How to use

Lather the soap bar onto wet skin and rinse.

The process of making soap involves several key steps. Begin by preparing the lye solution—carefully mix lye with distilled water to create lye water, following all safety precautions. Once the lye solution has cooled to room temperature, combine it with your melted oils. Use a stick blender to stick blend the mixture until the soap batter reaches light trace, which is the consistency of warm custard. At light trace, add essential oils for fragrance and blend again to ensure even distribution.

Pour the soap batter into a mold, such as a repurposed milk carton lined with wax paper for easy removal. For a decorative touch, gently press rose petals onto the top of the soap before curing. Allow the soap to cure at room temperature for several weeks to ensure a finished, gentle bar. The stick blend technique and the use of a stick blender are important for achieving a smooth, well-mixed soap batter during soap making.

After proper curing, the finished soap bars are ready for use.

For a natural cleaning option, you can also grate the soap and use it as laundry soap.

Why people love it

This soap recipe stands out among other soap recipes for its use of kombucha ferment, giving it distinctive qualities not found in typical homemade soap. If you're interested in how to make soap or exploring homemade soap, this bar serves as an excellent example of artisanal, natural soapmaking. While other soap recipes may use different oils or methods, this one is distinct for its kombucha infusion.
